Immigration Issue

For some odd reason today, I was watching CNN today. I usually don't dive into political issues on this blog but here goes anyways. Apparently there's a few issues relating to immigration that Congress will be voting upon.

  • Illegal Immigrants

  • Increased H1-B Visas

  • Increased Immigration Visa approvals

So personally, I'm pretty torned among all these issues. For the first ones, I feel sympathy to the migrant farm workers that are in the United States illegally and are not getting paid what normal wages should be and getting benefits. Majority of them are doing the jobs that really none of us "Americans" want to do. However at the same time, they are here ILLEGALLY! It is not fair for those who are legally to have to jump through INS hoops just to get status. I have personal hands on experience on that with my husband and his parents! Waking up 3:30 in the morning and driving downtown to stand in the immigration line at 4:30 in the morning in the freezing cold hoping the line is not already down the block.

At the same time, I have many friends that are currently here on H1-B visas too and that would be great for them, they're all in the high tech jobs. However, then I turn inward, I'm also in high tech and via CNN reporting H1-B Visa employees are willing to work on an avg of $13,000 less per year! That could be from the hourly contracting companies that hires the H1-B Visas and then send them off to various companies. I start thinking of the competition! Now, with all the potential increased H1-B Visa approvals, competition will be more fierce than ever in high-tech industry!

Last issue being with the increased approval ratings for immigration visas. However, I am concerned on new immigrants whether they will become a contributor to the U.S. economy or will they find a loop hole to further burden the already broken system! Think of all the families you may have seen that are on food stamp, disability, unemployment, etc that may NOT be in need of those programs? I personally have seen some of the food stamp users driving a Lexus SUV around town! I don't even have a Lexus!!!

So that's my first political rant! If I offended you, too damn bad, go get your own blog and write a response!
