The Agony of Holding Your Breath
Two people that I know are now dealing or have dealt with this sort of agony of 'holding your breath' for the past 2 - 4 weeks. When companies don't call back at a certain frame, say 1 week, your mind starts to wonder to these self-criticizing questions:
- Why didn't they call yet?
- Why didn't they choose me?
- I was enthusiastic about the position, Why didn't they think I was a good fit?
- Who else could have done a better job at that position?
and many more thoughts. This is what I called 'No Man' zone where no man or woman would want to be in. The thoughts of a pre-rejection causes so much intra-personal turmoil that it is hard to concentrate at anything else because your hopes, your dreams, your future...is still in the air of uncertainty.
However, on the brighter side is, if you survive the 'No Man' zone and the company does call, all of a sudden you become so elated and relieved that you just have to shout and sing. On the downer side, if your worst thoughts do come true, what do you then? Your life has not changed any yet there is a grave sense of disappointment of moving onward at the same pace you've been going before.
To all those out there who are 'holding your breath', I hope your lives will be filled with lots of exciting adventures where your most positive thoughts and dreams will come true. Don't hold your breath for that one job...continue on other conquests and new adventures. A change is a change, may it be your job, your life, your environment...you will get through this...'Just Breathe'!
